A View From the Easel

Lara Saget, an artist based in Brooklyn, New York, has been working in her studio since 2018, though she has been working in a dedicated space since 2013. Her daily routine begins with meditation and exercise before she arrives at her studio in the late morning. Her studio is a bustling hub of activity, with multiple stations dedicated to painting, glass work, and her collection of rocks.

She listens to a variety of music, from pump up tunes for physically demanding tasks to spiritual instruction podcasts for mental stimulation.

Her studio is integral to her work, providing her with ample space to work large scale and access to proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The space also houses a freight elevator that can handle the weight of her rocks and stones. The collaborative nature of her work in glass is a significant aspect of her studio, as she often collaborates with other skilled glass artists. Each new material she explores brings her into contact with other artists dedicated to that medium, leading to meaningful friendships.

Saget was thrilled to move into her current studio in 2018 after graduating from NYU. She transformed the space with the help of five classmates, constructing walls, storage, a gallery, and a kitchen. Over the years, she has expanded her space to include a dedicated rock room, a childhood dream come true. While she wishes her studio were larger, she is grateful for what she has now.

Her favorite local museum is the Met, where she enjoys wandering through ancient Egyptian and Hellenistic sculpture collections. Her favorite art material to work with is glass, a material she finds inherently alive due to its state changes.
