84 undocumented migrants detained in Putra Harmoni Apartments raid

KUALA LUMPUR - The Immigration Department apprehended 84 undocumented migrants during a joint operation called Ops Pintu at Putra Harmoni Apartments, commonly referred to as Green Flats, today. This comprehensive operation, involving 60 officers of varying ranks, unfolded in two stages, commencing yesterday. The initial phase kicked off at 11:30am yesterday, Sept 24, concentrating on inspections and enforcement actions targeting commercial establishments within the apartment complex.

The ensuing phase, initiated at 1:30am today, primarily aimed at residents suspected of being undocumented migrants, it reported.

A total of 321 individuals underwent screening, leading to the detention of 84 undocumented migrants, comprising 73 men, nine women, and two children, for subsequent action and investigation. The operation was precipitated by information circulating on social media and complaints from the local community. It was further bolstered by intelligence gathered by the department, which indicated the presence of foreigners residing in the area, some engaged in business activities.

The Immigration Department underscored the severity of the issue of undocumented migrants living in groups and engaging in activities that contravene immigration laws. The department also cautioned property owners against inadvertently aiding foreigners without valid documents. They emphasized the responsibility of homeowners and premises owners to ensure that the immigration status of occupants or tenants is valid and adheres to the stipulated requirements.

The public, the department noted, are the eyes and ears, as well as strategic partners, of enforcement agencies in identifying locations and activities necessitating enforcement action.
