Xi urges Trump on China-US synergy, says AI must be human-controlled

On Thursday, President Xi Jinping engaged in discussions with President Donald Trump at the White House, advocating for a stronger bond between China and the United States. Xi contended that addressing the globe's most pressing issues hinges on deepening ties and maintaining constant communication between the two nations. The Chinese leader expressed that his visit, prompted by Trump's invitation, seeks to cultivate camaraderie, broaden collaboration, and enhance the welfare of citizens in both countries.

As global dynamics evolve due to artificial intelligence and shifting geopolitics, Xi emphasized the historic responsibility of China and the U.S. to drive human advancement and progress.

Xi reiterated his commitment to fostering a "relationship of strategic stability" between China and the U.S., highlighting that the international community has praised the accord reached during Trump's visit. He underscored the intertwined interests of both nations and urged governmental entities to intensify dialogue and cooperate in good faith. While acknowledging that China-U.S. cooperation cannot resolve every global challenge, Xi maintained that without collaboration, many problems would remain unsolved.

Given their leadership in artificial intelligence, Xi stressed that both nations bear the duty to ensure AI development remains under human control, serving the welfare and prosperity of their respective populations. To facilitate bilateral exchanges, Xi proposed the expansion of direct flights and assured the readiness of Chinese counternarcotics and law enforcement agencies to bolster coordination with their U.S. counterparts.

Xi affirmed that China welcomes American companies, promising a wide-open door for fair treatment within the United States. As a gesture of friendship, President Xi announced the arrival of two pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, to Zoo Atlanta in Georgia in the coming days.
