Welder sentenced to 7 years’ jail for causing death of wife’s lover

A welder has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison by the Shah Alam High Court for causing the death of his wife's alleged lover. Chin Ngit Soon pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of causing death by negligence under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code. Initially charged with murder, the Attorney-General's Chambers offered the lesser charge.

The incident occurred on November 25, 2022, at a supermarket carpark in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Cheras. Chin discovered his wife's affair with Wong Kim Miew and confronted Wong with a knife, leading to a scuffle. During the struggle, Chin accidentally stabbed Wong. Wong attempted to flee but stopped after 150 meters. Chin then took Wong to a private hospital, which refused admission, and subsequently drove him to Hospital Serdang, where he received treatment.

Wong ultimately died nine hours later. The judge emphasized that Chin's actions were not premeditated and were driven by emotional reactions, not a plan to kill.
