Vakulenko: Two-day NMT model and retakes under discussion, but challenges remain

Kyiv, September 24 - Director of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA) Tetiana Vakulenko has revealed that discussions are underway regarding the introduction of a two-day model for the National Multisubject Test (NMT) and the potential for retakes. This initiative is part of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's announcement to make the testing process more accommodating for applicants facing challenging circumstances.

Vakulenko discussed the proposed two-day testing model during a press conference in Kyiv, emphasizing that the first day would involve participants taking one section within a two-hour timeframe. The following day would see the completion of two additional exams. She also mentioned that applicants could potentially retake the NMT if they fail to meet the minimum passing score. However, Vakulenko noted that it is premature to determine which specific model will be implemented.

She highlighted the importance of considering the calendar and the needs of the Ukrainian education system and network. Vakulenko pointed out that the presence or absence of shelters poses a significant challenge, as seen in Odesa earlier this year, where applicants could not take the tests due to inadequate shelter conditions and an ongoing air raid alert. Implementing a two-day model combined with retakes, she warned, could exacerbate the issue due to the limited availability of shelters.
