Two foreigners arrested over alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper in Kumasi

Two foreign nationals have been apprehended in connection with the alleged kidnapping and murder of Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Toure in Kumasi. Identified as 32-year-old Salifu Walid from Niger and 24-year-old Aziz Wadrago Mane from Burkina Faso, the suspects were taken into custody on September 20 at a hideout near Mamponteng following months of intelligence-led investigations.

According to the Head of the Police Public Affairs Department, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the arrests were made by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in collaboration with the Police Intelligence Directorate. Investigators suspect Walid and Mane were part of a four-man group posing as football scouting agents. They allegedly used online platforms and personal contacts to entice individuals with promises of football opportunities in Ghana.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted their roles in luring Toure to the country and identified Noukoubri Arzouma Sylviain, also known as Prince Pierre, as another key participant in the alleged cross-border operation. Sylviain remains at large and is wanted by the police.

Police have not yet disclosed the exact manner of Toure's kidnapping or the circumstances of his death, as investigations are ongoing. Efforts are being intensified to locate the two remaining suspects, Barry, and identify anyone else connected to the alleged crime. As of now, Walid and Mane are in police custody and are expected to face court as the investigation proceeds.
