Trump criticized for hailing deep friendship with China's Xi Jinping amid AI war

Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized on Thursday that both China and the United States share the responsibility to ensure artificial intelligence (AI) development remains under human control. Speaking at the White House, Xi stated that both nations possess the capability and duty to develop AI for the benefit of humanity while maintaining human oversight over its advancements.

This statement follows China's Commerce Ministry confirming the first-ever talks between senior US and Chinese trade negotiators on AI, as reported by CNBC. During the meeting, US President Donald Trump echoed similar sentiments, hinting that AI would be a focal point of their discussions. Trump stated, "A big day with President Xi of China.

Super Intelligence (SI) will be a big topic of discussion, but I want to leave it exactly where it is. That is China's position also." On the second day of Xi's visit, Trump asserted that the two nations forged a "truly great friendship...built on mutual respect and the vital interests of our people." Xi, in his remarks, expressed that despite their differences, China and the US share deeply intertwined interests and can build mutual trust, inviting 100,000 young Americans for student exchanges over the next five years.

However, both leaders cautioned against unhealthy competition, stating that it should be a race of catching up rather than a wrestle, and coexistence should be achieved in peace.
