CEO's of OpenAI Sam Altman and Anthropic Dario Amodei have urged international cooperation in managing artificial intelligence (AI) risks, while stressing that no single country, company or individual should dominate the technology, according to Anadolu Agency. OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman emphasized that AI could usher in a new era of creativity and discovery, but could also lead to large-scale changes and uncertainty.

He reiterated that the technology should be built for human benefit, not just to enhance machine capabilities. Altman further stressed that no individual, company or nation should use the most powerful AI models to impose their views on others. Decision-making related to AI should not be left to companies or technology labs alone, but should be shaped through democratic processes and governance accountable to the public.

Meanwhile, Anthropic's CEO Dario Amodei identified two main risks associated with AI: its misuse, including the creation of biological weapons, and the possibility that AI models may develop faster than those responsible for controlling them. He warned that AI could become a threat to humanity if not managed properly. Amodei stated that Anthropic is ready to pause the development of AI systems if necessary to ensure that every new technology is released safely.

However, he stressed that risk management for AI cannot be left to a single company as it involves the entire industry and international society. He also called for the creation of common global standards to test the risk of losing control over AI models and their potential misuse. The co-chair of the UN's independent expert panel on AI, Yoshua Bengio, also noted that governments and society should not view the competition to develop AI as something unavoidable.

According to him, the competition arises from choices made by individual companies and can pose risks to all nations.
