The quiet majority for human rights

Many people around the world object to brutality, hatred, and injustice, and do not want wealth and power to determine who is protected. They believe that respecting humanity's rules should be a universal priority. This sentiment underpins the Global Alliance for Human Rights, an initiative launched by the United Nations Human Rights in June 2026.

The Alliance brings together various stakeholders to amplify the voices of those dedicated to human rights and channel their collective energy towards tangible change. The organization collaborates with governments, cities, civil society, youth, businesses, philanthropies, thinkers, artists, and scientists to address the challenges to human rights.

One of its initial projects focuses on Human Rights Cities, where local authorities utilize human rights principles to enhance urban living conditions. For instance, Baguio in the Philippines allows citizens to monitor public budgets and bidding processes through a mobile app, promoting transparency. In Kenya, the Alliance provides human rights training for local authorities to foster community participation in decision-making processes.

The Global Alliance also tackles issues such as youth mobilization, human rights in business and technology, climate action, and sports. Since its inception, the Alliance has attracted support from various sectors, including 600 organizations and twelve young changemakers. The movement aims to connect and strengthen existing projects, giving a voice to the often-quiet majority and advocating for fairness, dignity, and respect as the foundations of a safer and more stable future.
