TCN begins restoration of Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has commenced the restoration of the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line after the collapse of tower T367 in Yauri, Kebbi State. This restoration effort was announced by TCN in a statement released by their management on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The company reported that the fallen tower had been fully taken apart and decommissioned, with the conductors and skywire correctly aligned as part of the next steps in the restoration process.

Additionally, an Emergency Restoration System tower has been relocated to the site and is prepared for installation, TCN stated. According to the company, subsequent to this, cable stringing and other necessary works will be undertaken to restore the affected transmission line. The collapse of tower T367 had interrupted bulk electricity transmission through the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi corridor.

TCN had declared Force Majeure on the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line on September 8 following the incident. Preliminary investigations suggested that strong winds and rainstorms were responsible for the tower's collapse, which occurred after the line tripped on September 7. TCN also requested patience from electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident while the restoration work proceeded.
