Shohei Ohtani returns from injury and is the DH as the Dodgers reshuffle the top of the order

Shohei Ohtani returned to the Los Angeles Dodgers' lineup on Wednesday after two weeks sidelined by right biceps discomfort. The two-way superstar is set to bat second as the designated hitter against the San Diego Padres and left-handed starter Robbie Ray. Ohtani, who hits left-handed and throws and pitches right-handed, was expected to face some challenges as he readjusts to the swing and barrel control after a lengthy absence.

Manager Dave Roberts acknowledged that Ohtani's return was a positive step, but the All-Star pitcher will need to focus on controlling his swing and managing his physical condition. Ohtani's return allows Mookie Betts to return to his usual leadoff spot, where he has been hitting exceptionally well this month with a .366 average, 6 home runs, 21 RBIs, and a strong overall performance.

Ohtani's last appearance was on September 7 against Cincinnati, where he was visibly fatigued and struggled with his swing. With Ohtani back at bat, the Dodgers hope to leverage his unique skills as a hitter and pitcher to bolster their chances in the postseason.
