Senate edges closer to vote on Israeli accountability for US citizens killed in West Bank, Democrat says

Nine US citizens have been killed by Israelis in the occupied West Bank over the past four years, according to Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen. Van Hollen, a Democratic senator, introduced Senate Resolution 852 earlier this month, aiming to hold Israel accountable for these killings and the imprisonment of three others. The resolution, pursuant to Section 502(b) of the Foreign Assistance Act, would require the State Department to provide human rights reports on countries receiving US aid, of which Israel receives the most at $3.3 billion in 2025.

With 24 Democratic senators already supporting the resolution, Van Hollen expressed optimism that a vote could take place as soon as next week, a privileged resolution that can bypass other business due to its urgent nature. However, the key obstacle remains the lack of Republican support, as the Senate is currently divided 53 Republicans and 47 Democrats.

Van Hollen urged Americans to contact their senators to support the resolution, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for the American citizens affected by these incidents.
