Russian strikes kill eight in Ukraine, damage maternity clinic

Ukrainian military robots are making history by conducting airborne assaults behind Russian lines, while other robots are clearing mines ahead of advancing Ukrainian troops. These ground robots are supporting Ukraine's Operation Vivaldi counterattack, which has successfully broken a Russian military pincer movement and liberated significant Ukrainian territory.

The Ukrainian Third Army Corps announced this "world-first" airborne assault involving robots and drones on September 21, 2026, according to the Ukrainian government media platform United24. Heavy bomber drones successfully air-dropped explosive ground robots over six miles behind Russian frontlines, enabling the robots to bypass difficult terrain and enemy defenses to attack supply lines from behind.

Although Ukraine has previously used heavy drones to deliver robots closer to their targets, this airborne assault is reportedly the most ambitious attempt to date.
