Quebec City man accused of planning a chemical attack to benefit ISIS group

QUEBEC CITY - A 24-year-old man from Quebec City is charged with allegedly plotting a chemical attack to benefit the Islamic State group, according to police. RCMP arrested Louay Angoud on Wednesday following an investigation that began in April. Federal police allege Angoud intended to carry out at least one attack in Canada on behalf of ISIS.

Police say the suspect allegedly communicated with ISIS members online and allegedly claimed he knew how to make a chemical weapon to poison Canadian citizens. However, authorities note there was no imminent danger to the public as Angoud did not have the materials needed to carry out the attack. The man, who is not a Canadian citizen and has no criminal record, is facing multiple charges carrying potential prison sentences from 10 years to life.
