Punjab Recalls Four Medicine Batches Over Quality Concerns

Punjab authorities have initiated the recall of four medicine batches due to quality issues, with provincial drug testing labs deeming them substandard and adulterated. The products under recall are DryGlit syrup, Trezine tablets, Zinad tablets, and Bemin tablets. DryGlit 120mL syrup, with batch numbers S13326 and S13426, is substandard because its ethylene glycol content surpasses the permissible limit, both having an expiry date of June 2028.

The other three medicines are classified as adulterated; Trezine (Cetirizine 10mg, batch 307, expiring in April 2027), Zinad (Tizanidine 2mg, batch 5F001, expiring in June 2028), and Bemin (Mecobalamin 500mcg, batch 093, expiring in September 2027). Punjab health officials have instructed pharmacies, wholesalers, distributors, and healthcare institutions to cease dispensing the affected batches and report existing stocks and consumption records to drug inspectors.

Manufacturers and market authorization holders are required to commence recalls and submit necessary information, including a recall assessment, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions. Enhanced surveillance across the medicine supply chain is also mandated. The provincial government has urged consumers and patients to discontinue using the listed batches immediately, warning potential health risks.
