It is alleged that the transaction involved Benin supplied maize to a Ghanaian company via an Accra-based middleman, known only as Alhaji.
The middleman had reportedly gone into hiding after it was confirmed that payment had been made by the receiving company to the middleman, but the foreign supplier claimed he had not received the money despite several months of demands and excuses. The Good Samaritan who helped trace the middleman was reportedly arrested by a senior officer at the Police Headquarters Operations Unit.
