Police hunt male guest over death of woman in Calabar hotel

The Cross River State Police Command in Nigeria has initiated a search for a male guest who checked into a hotel in Calabar South and is now wanted in connection with the death of a woman. The woman, whose identity has not been confirmed, was found dead at the hotel located on Clifford Lane, Calabar South, in what authorities are treating as a suspected homicide. The police revealed this information in an update on Wednesday following an incident first reported on September 8, 2026.

Initial investigations indicate that the deceased had been staying at the hotel with the unidentified male guest, whose current location is unknown. Law enforcement officers are now focused on locating the man and determining the circumstances surrounding the woman's death. The police have released a photo of the deceased to aid in identifying her and locating her next of kin or associates.

They have appealed to the public for any information regarding the woman's identity or the whereabouts of the male guest, urging anyone with relevant details to reach out to the police.

In custody is a receptionist who was on duty when the two guests were admitted to the hotel. The officer is being questioned about the admission process and the events leading up to the discovery of the deceased. However, it is important to note that the receptionist's detention does not imply guilt, and any subsequent actions by the authorities will be guided by the available evidence in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has emphasized that the investigation should be conducted in a professional and unbiased manner.
