Police arrest 17-year-old over alleged defilement of 3-year-old girl in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command announced the arrest of a 17-year-old male suspect, Usman Dauda, in connection with the alleged defilement of a three-year-old girl in the Saki area of the state. The arrest came after a distress report was made at the Saki Divisional Police Station on September 17, 2026, around 6:00 p.m., concerning the child's disappearance during a school pick-up earlier that day.

A local search resulted in the child's recovery, distressed, on the roadside. Initial investigations suggested that the suspect had forcibly taken the child to his apartment, where the alleged offense occurred. Following the discovery, detectives secured the crime scene, leading to Dauda's immediate arrest and the collection of crucial physical evidence.

The survivor was taken to a medical facility in Saki for comprehensive clinical and psychotherapeutic care. The police command emphasized its zero-tolerance stance against child abuse and sexual violence, promising to protect the survivor's and her family's privacy and dignity as per the Child Rights Act and ethical guidelines. The case has been handed over to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Ibadan for further investigation and prosecution.

The command urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any acts of violence against children to the nearest police facility.
