PN vows legal action after RoS suspends activities

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) expressed disagreement with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) decision to suspend its activities and affirmed its intention to pursue legal action to defend itself. The suspension order was issued under Section 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966, directing the cessation of all PN activities. This announcement came in response to a complaint filed by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on August 11, alleging that PN was not present at a crucial meeting on July 16 and raised concerns about membership status within the coalition.

PN vowed to challenge the RoS decision in court, emphasizing that they do not agree with the rationale behind the suspension and that their actions are supported by their members and supporters. The coalition noted that the notice and order were served on September 22 and 23, marking the same period when the Melaka state legislative assembly was announced and dissolved.

PN urged its members to remain composed and assured that they would provide further updates. Additionally, PN imposed an immediate gag order, restricting anyone from speaking on behalf of the coalition except for its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. The RoS had previously acknowledged receiving the formal complaint from Bersatu, highlighting tensions within the coalition and potential political pressure from external and internal sources.
