PM Anwar says Malaysia manages disputes with neighbours through dialogue, not distrust

HANGZHOU, Sept 24 — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim emphasized that his nation handles conflicts with neighboring countries through diplomatic discussions and mutual respect, rather than hostility or mistrust. During a comprehensive speech, Anwar highlighted the strong cultural and diplomatic bonds between Malaysia and China, sharing personal stories of shared values and philosophical connections with Chinese leaders.

He commended Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang for their respectful treatment of smaller nations as peers, emphasizing the significance of this approach for developing countries facing post-colonial challenges and contemporary geopolitical dynamics. Anwar clarified that the close relationship with China stems from their shared geographical proximity, and he found it challenging to comprehend the skepticism surrounding China's trustworthiness, dismissing such views as unfounded prejudices.

The Prime Minister, also serving as Finance Minister, was in China for a three-day official visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, engaging in high-level discussions with President Xi and Premier Li, as well as with other Chinese officials and business leaders.
