Petition in Bombay High Court seeks stay on SIR in Maharashtra, restoration of voter names

The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) has challenged a directive issued by the Ghana Education Service (GES) regarding the collection of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) dues, citing a High Court injunction. The GES directive, issued on September 23, ordered heads of Senior High Schools and Senior High Technical Schools to cease collecting unauthorised fees and levies, including PTA dues.

In response, the NCPTA released a statement on September 24, expressing its support for the Free Senior High School policy and reaffirming that no student should be denied any rights or school services due to non-payment of any fee or levy. The NCPTA's claim stems from a July 21, 2026 High Court ruling in Suit No. GJ/0054/2026, in which the court granted an interlocutory injunction to restrain the Attorney General and GES from enforcing the GES PTA Guidelines in areas where NCPTA associations operate.

The court's directive does not suspend the collection of PTA dues and levies, but rather maintains the status quo until the substantive case is finally determined. The NCPTA has formally requested clarification from the GES and will continue to operate its branches lawfully while ensuring that payment of dues and levies remains voluntary.

The Council also instructed its branch executives to ensure that no child is denied any rights or school services for non-payment, and that all collected monies are properly documented and accounted for. The NCPTA has urged parents who encounter any form of coercion to pay PTA dues to report such instances for immediate action. The Council reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the GES and other stakeholders in the best interests of students and affirmed its respect for the authority of the courts.
