Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, recently visited the UniSIRAJ International Islamic Tourism, Heritage, Research & Awareness (UniTHRA) 2026 conference held at Dewan Sivik, Arau. ARAU: Perlis has the potential to be recognized not just as a tourist destination, but as a state offering a unique narrative, identity, and heritage, providing meaningful experiences for visitors.

The Raja Muda emphasized that strengthening aspects such as history, culture, natural environment, and local identity can be enhanced in developing tourism based on Islamic values and local uniqueness. "Research in the field of Islamic tourism, heritage, conservation, and culture needs to be translated into solid foundations, innovation, and solutions benefiting the people," he stated, as shared via a statement issued by the Arau Palace.

As the Chancellor of the International Islamic University Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (Unisiraj), he also highlighted the importance of continuing discussions and actions supporting Perlis' development, Malaysia, and the international community. Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also presented awards to Unisiraj in collaboration with the Perlis Islamic and Adat Law Council (MAIPs) for their efforts in making Unithra a platform for academic scholars, researchers, tourism enthusiasts, government, and stakeholders to form a more accurate, practical approach.

Meanwhile, the Arau Palace announced that Unithra 2026, themed "Empowering Islamic Tourism for Sustainable Development," will bring together 200 participants from within and outside the country. It will serve as a platform to discuss the roles of heritage and research in strengthening the Islamic tourism industry. "The discussions also focused on the potential of Islamic economy within the tourism sector, aside from exploring approaches to strengthen Islamic heritage conservation and the development of Muslim-friendly tourism," according to the palace statement.

The Arau Palace said that the announcement of Unithra reflects Unisiraj's continued commitment to promoting high-impact research and expanding the international discourse on Islamic tourism, heritage, and sustainable development.
