Pantai hospitals equip Batu Pahat community with burn response skills

Batu Pahat: Pantai Hospital Melaka and Pantai Hospital Batu Pahat have collaborated to educate residents on managing burn injuries and responding to fire-related emergencies. The Burn Awareness Campaign 2026, held recently at Batu Pahat Mall, brought together healthcare professionals, emergency responders, and community members. The focus was on understanding the crucial first minutes in an emergency, covering burn management, emergency response, and fire prevention.

Dr Kevin Khoo, CEO of Pantai Hospital Melaka, emphasized that many burn injuries occur in everyday situations, such as at home or during accidents. Quick and correct responses can prevent the injury from worsening, significantly impacting the patient's recovery. The hospital treats a range of burn cases, from minor injuries to those needing specialist surgical care.

The campaign featured health talks by specialists on the immediate and longer-term management of burns. Emergency Medicine consultant Dr Teh Yong Hup explained the assessment and stabilization of burn patients in the Emergency Department, while Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Lee Shi Zhen discussed the long-term impact of serious burns and the importance of specialist follow-up care.

Fire safety awareness was also addressed by the Penggaram Fire Station, highlighting common household fire risks and preventive measures. Batu Pahat St John Ambulance conducted CPR demonstrations and provided basic emergency response guidance.

Pantai Hospital Batu Pahat acting COO Tiong Ngee Zheng stated that the campaign reflects the hospital's commitment to the community beyond patient care. By providing practical health information and preventive screenings, Pantai Hospitals aims to improve the overall health and safety of Batu Pahat residents.
