Pakistan Seeks US EXIM Bank Financing for PIA Aircraft, Refinery, and Reko Diq

Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb held discussions with US Export-Import Bank Chairman John Jovanovich in New York, focusing on potential financing for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), refinery modernization, and the Reko Diq mining project. The talks centered on US EXIM Bank support for PIA's aircraft procurement, particularly Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and engine financing, as well as spare parts to restore grounded Boeing 777 aircraft.

Refinery upgrades were also seen as a possible area for US EXIM Bank assistance. Regarding Reko Diq, Aurangzeb emphasized the project's significance to Pakistan's exports and the impact of delays, expressing appreciation for the US EXIM Bank's ongoing commitment to the mining initiative. This meeting was part of Aurangzeb's activities in New York for the UN General Assembly and the Digital Cooperation Organization's High Level Ministerial Dialogue, where he promoted digital transformation as a key factor in Pakistan's shift from stabilization to sustainable growth.
