Oil production reaches 307m barrels in six months – FG

In the six months from March to August 2026, Nigeria produced a total of approximately 307 million barrels of crude oil and condensate, according to data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. The country's production averaged around 1.67 million barrels per day during this period, with output increasing steadily from March to June before slightly declining in July and August.

Production began at 1.56 million barrels per day in March, rising to about 1.74 million barrels per day in June, the highest monthly rate during the six-month span. Following June, production dropped to 1.67 million barrels per day in July and remained steady at 1.68 million barrels per day in August. Crude oil accounted for about 1.50 million barrels per day on average, while condensate contributed roughly 180,000 barrels per day.

On an annualized basis, the daily output of about 1.67 million barrels would equate to over 600 million barrels if sustained throughout the year. This production increase is significant for Nigeria, as the government heavily relies on crude oil for foreign exchange earnings and government revenue. Despite the decline in production after the June peak, Nigeria remained above its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries quota of 1.50 million barrels per day, indicating full compliance.

The NUPRC continues to monitor production to address challenges such as crude theft, pipeline vandalism, operational disruptions, and other issues affecting upstream output.
