Nothing will happen to me – Baffour Awuah invokes Psalm 91 amid EOCO row

Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Manhyia South MP, has defended his refusal to enter the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) office on Wednesday. The private legal practitioner appeared on Joy News’ PM Express to discuss the incident, stating that he was willing to attend the agency, but only if they followed the proper procedure.

The altercation began when a woman approached him after he had left a court and addressed the media. She firmly grasped his wrist, causing him to free himself. Awuah then offered to drive himself to EOCO in his car, prompting the woman to insist that he could not use his vehicle. When Awuah asked for identification confirming her affiliation with EOCO, she was unable to provide any.

This lack of identification heightened Awuah’s suspicions, leading him to refuse to enter the vehicle, believing the situation resembled an unlawful kidnapping. Despite being invited to EOCO twice in February, Awuah claimed that the invitations were not directed to him personally, leading him to reject the agency’s claims of a lawful arrest.

He maintained that his decision to take refuge at Parliament was justified, stating that seeking sanctuary against kidnappers was not wrong. EOCO maintains that the attempted arrest was part of efforts to compel Awuah's attendance in an ongoing investigation, which the MP denies having any fear of.
