NATO Adopts Ukrainian War Experience: What Approaches Allies Are Changing

Four and a half years of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine have provided Ukrainian troops with unique experience in using modern technology and tactics in real combat conditions. Now, Ukraine is systematically sharing this knowledge with NATO countries, focusing on areas such as drones, countering Russian missiles, electronic warfare, and operational planning.

During a three-week session, Ukrainian servicemembers with combat experience shared their knowledge with officers from the Polish and German Armed Forces, highlighting the importance of joint work and shared understanding in forming genuine interoperability. Ukrainian experience with unmanned systems, particularly FPV drones, electronic warfare assets, and aerial interception systems, has proven particularly valuable for allies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported the successful use of a new interceptor drone against Russian strike UAVs, demonstrating the effectiveness of this technology. NATO emphasizes that supporting Ukraine is interconnected with Europe's own security, and allies are studying Ukrainian expertise not only in weapons deployment but also in defense industry development, logistics, and production organization.

The war in Ukraine has underscored the central role of technological development in ensuring effectiveness, supply, and logistics on the modern battlefield. European countries are revising their security strategies in response to Russia's war against Ukraine and hybrid threats, with Switzerland adopting a new strategy focused on strengthening resilience, protecting critical infrastructure, and developing defense capabilities.
