Nationwide meat recall hits 168,000 pounds of pork, beef, and goat after USDA uncovers ‘false’ marks

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a nationwide recall for approximately 168,000 pounds of pork, beef, and goat meat products due to the presence of false inspection marks. These false marks indicate that the meat did not undergo legally required safety inspections, rendering it potentially unsafe to consume and posing a risk of serious health consequences, including death.

The recall was initiated following the discovery of false USDA establishment numbers, specifically "EST. 1363," on the packaging of the recalled items. The meat in question was distributed by Star Meat Delivery Inc., which then shipped it to A&D Foods, a Georgia-based distributor, before being further distributed to various retailers and restaurants across the nation.

The FSIS emphasizes that the false establishment marks on the meat packaging do not guarantee the safety of the products, as they have not undergone the necessary inspections. Due to this, the meat is being treated as unsafe and is subject to a Class 1 recall, indicating a high likelihood of causing serious health issues or even death.

Consumers with any of the recalled products are advised to dispose of them or return them to the store of purchase. Restaurants and retailers are urged not to serve or sell the recalled meats to prevent potential health risks. As more information becomes available, the list of recalled products may expand.
