N1m salary can’t cover dialysis, TG Omori details kidney failure battle

Nigerian music video director, ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, has revealed the financial strain of treating kidney failure, stating that even a monthly salary of N1m may not be sufficient to cover dialysis treatment. During an interview on the Afropolitan podcast, Omori detailed his experience with kidney failure and the challenges he faced while awaiting a transplant.

A dialysis session costs N50,000 to N70,000 at some hospitals and N150,000 to N200,000 at private facilities. Patients may need up to three sessions per week, resulting in weekly costs ranging from N500,000 to N600,000. Omori spent a significant amount on surgery and estimated that a patient undergoing dialysis for a year while waiting for a transplant could spend up to N31m, excluding additional tests, medication, and potential complications.

He also shared his unsuccessful attempt to receive a kidney from his brother, who had to live with one kidney after the transplant was not successful. Omori emphasized that even earning N1m monthly would not be enough to cover the treatment costs, highlighting the importance of financial support during serious illness.
