N. Korea test-fires upgraded multiple-rocket launcher shells

North Korea conducted a test of upgraded 240mm-caliber controlled multiple-launch rockets on Tuesday, as part of the country's five-year plan for modernizing artillery and missile forces, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). Leading military officials overseeing the test stated that the development of range-extended rockets ensures significant improvements in firepower readiness along the southern border, reported the KCNA.

Pak Jong-chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the ruling Workers Party, emphasized the need to concentrate the deadliest and most destructive attack forces on the southern border. He underlined the importance of making the enemy aware that North Korea has replaced all of its long-range strike means with the latest systems at the earliest possible date. The rockets used in the test are equipped with an autonomous pinpoint guide system.
