Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party leads in provisional election results

Morocco's centre-right Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), part of the ruling coalition, emerged victorious in Wednesday's parliamentary election, securing 97 out of 395 seats according to provisional results. The election attracted a turnout of 38 percent, the lowest level in almost two decades due to voter apathy amid social crises.

The National Rally of Independents (RNI), which heads the outgoing coalition, secured 66 seats, while the right-wing Istiqlal party followed with 65 seats. The Islamist opposition's Justice and Development Party took 54 seats. Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit reported the figures. Voter turnout was particularly low among young people, with only 4 percent aged 18-24.

The protests by Gen-Z demonstrators in September 2025 demanding better health and education, as well as healthcare, education, and purchasing power concerns, contributed to the low turnout. Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, who leads the RNI, defended his government's record and promised more reforms if re-elected, but faced accusations of conflicts of interest involving his company.
