Mets name former Twins executive Derek Falvey as senior adviser for baseball operations

Arlington, Texas (AP) — The New York Mets have appointed Derek Falvey as their senior adviser for baseball operations. This decision comes eight months after Falvey mutually agreed to leave his position with the Minnesota Twins after nearly a decade with the organization. In his new role, Falvey will report directly to David Stearns, the Mets president of baseball operations.

Speaking about Falvey, Stearns praised his extensive experience and reputation as a respected executive in the sport. Stearns highlighted Falvey's comprehensive understanding of various baseball operations functions and his proven ability to lead an organization. During his tenure with the Twins from 2016 to 2019, Falvey served as an executive vice president and chief baseball officer, and then took on the role of president of baseball operations in 2019.

During this time, the Twins made the playoffs four times. Falvey's departure from the Twins in January followed a change in control of the family-owned team when Tom Pohlad became the executive chair. Upon joining the Mets, Falvey expressed his excitement about becoming part of a franchise that holds significant meaning for many fans.

He noted that the high expectations and commitment to winning at every level resonated with him during his discussions with the organization. Falvey emphasized his lifelong love for baseball and his desire to contribute to the team in any capacity he can. The Mets recently announced that Andy Green will become their full-time manager, signing a three-year contract.

Additionally, the team promoted Kris Gross to the position of assistant general manager of scouting. Gross had been with the Mets for three years, initially overseeing amateur scouting, but during this season, he was also given responsibility for international scouting.
