Meta unveils $1,299 VR Glasses with cinema, workspace and gaming in a 100-gram design

Meta unveiled a new line of virtual reality glasses called Meta VR Glasses, priced at $1,299.99, promising to revolutionize the VR experience. The glasses, which are designed to look like regular spectacles, weigh just 100 grams, about the weight of a deck of cards. This lightweight design is achieved through a split architecture that separates the display, sensors, and computing hardware from the main device, allowing the glasses to feel more like a pair of glasses rather than a cumbersome headset.

The glasses feature a 5K Infinite Display with micro-OLED panels and pancake lenses, providing high clarity for detailed context and text. They also support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos spatial audio, and IMAX Enhanced certification, making them suitable for a variety of immersive experiences, including movies, gaming, and sports events.

The glasses utilize Meta AI and can be controlled through voice, eye movements, and natural hand gestures. They also allow users to interact with virtual content while still being aware of their surroundings, thanks to open sides and passthrough cameras. Besides entertainment, the VR glasses can function as a portable workspace or a large virtual screen.

Meta plans to collaborate with various platforms such as Disney+ and sports networks like NBA, MLB, and ESPN to offer a broad range of content.
