Meta has unveiled Muse Charm, a compact AI-powered device designed to bring the company's Muse AI assistant to users through a keychain-sized gadget. CEO Mark Zuckerberg dubbed the device a "joyful little device" during its introduction. Muse Charm offers a fresh take on digital companions, similar to Tamagotchi toys. The gadget features a miniature display to present a customizable Muse character, enabling users to interact with the AI throughout the day.

Distinct from typical AI assistants that necessitate opening an app on a smartphone, Muse Charm operates as an independent device, easily carried on a keychain or worn using a strap.

Hardware-wise, Muse Charm encompasses a compact display, built-in cameras, microphones, speakers, and USB-C charging capabilities. The integrated cameras empower Muse to analyze images, facilitating AI assistance based on the user's visual input. Additionally, the device includes a fingerprint sensor for unlocking and supports a built-in 5G connection, allowing it to communicate with Meta's AI services without depending on Wi-Fi. Notably, Muse Charm lacks traditional phone or video calling features.

The device allows users to customize the Muse character displayed on it, adjusting its appearance and voice. Furthermore, Muse Charm can communicate with other Muse Charm devices placed nearby. Setup and synchronization are facilitated through the Muse app, accessible on both Android and iPhone platforms. Meta regards Muse Charm as part of its expanding AI hardware portfolio, which also includes smart glasses and other AI-infused devices.

The company anticipates that users will primarily utilize Muse AI through smartphones and smart glasses, while Muse Charm provides a more direct AI experience for those seeking it.
