Meta Debuts a Dedicated, Palm-Sized ‘Charm’ Device to Use Muse On the Go

Meta has introduced a compact, palm-sized gadget called the Muse Charm, designed to interact with the company's AI assistant. The device, revealed during Meta's Connect conference, bears a resemblance to the Tamagotchi digital pet from the 1990s. The Charm features a 2-inch display and runs a new operating system, developed by Meta's Superintelligence AI group and led by former Apple interface design chief Alan Dye.

Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, described the Charm as a "holdable" device, indicating that it is meant to be picked up and interacted with throughout the day. The device includes a fingerprint sensor for unlocking and can be attached to a wrist strap, pocket, or keychain with a lanyard. A virtual Muse character can be customized in terms of appearance, outfits, voice, and other attributes and appears at the center of the OLED touch screen.

The Charm connects to the Muse assistant via Bluetooth and supports 5G connectivity, enabling users to access AI models while away from Wi-Fi. The device also features a camera on both the front and back, intended to capture photos and videos for AI analysis. Users can sync the Charm with their iPhone or Android device through the Muse app and set it up using a USB-C charging port.

The Charm's development was fast, with the team aiming to launch it in 2026, ultimately releasing it before the end of 2026. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the device would go on sale before the holiday season. While the exact pricing and carrier fees for mobile network access have yet to be determined, the Charm is expected to be priced similarly to a smartwatch.
