‘Many flowers make spring’: Anwar affirms Malaysia open to China’s digital investment

In a recent speech at the 5th Global Digital Trade Expo (GDTE) opening ceremony in Hangzhou, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed Malaysia's openness to China's digital technology investments and cooperation. The Malaysian leader praised China's willingness to showcase and share technologies on various platforms, highlighting the importance of this trend for the digital economy. Anwar emphasized that Malaysia would continue to open its economy to benefit digital investments and partnerships.

Acknowledging Malaysia's strengths such as disciplined workers, a skilled workforce, multilingual abilities, a rules-based economy, and a base for reaching markets across Asia, the prime minister lauded President Xi Jinping's stance that digital trade and artificial intelligence should reduce inequality. Drawing on a Chinese proverb, Anwar stated that true progress relies on inclusive growth, urging all nations to participate and prosper in a stronger digital economy.

Held at the Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Centre, the five-day expo underscored China's commitment to digital innovation and global collaboration. Anwar is in China for a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, which includes high-level meetings and engagements with Chinese leaders and industry figures.
