Majority calls for stronger collaboration among security agencies to fight drug trafficking in Ghana

The majority in Ghana's Parliament is urging security and law enforcement agencies to collaborate more effectively in the fight against drug trafficking. Majority Leader James Agalga made this call during a press conference on Thursday, September 24. He stated that as the narcotics trade becomes increasingly complex, agencies such as the Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ports and Harbour Authority, and others must work together to identify, investigate, and dismantle drug networks.

According to Agalga, no single agency can effectively combat drug trafficking; instead, they must share intelligence and coordinate their operations. The Majority caucus emphasizes that profiling, screening, investigation, prosecution, and asset recovery are all crucial components in the fight against drug trafficking, and only through better coordination can Ghana disrupt and dismantle these networks.

They also highlight the need for sustained cooperation among various agencies involved in border security, intelligence gathering, investigations, prosecution, port operations, and asset recovery, as each institution has specific responsibilities but must complement the efforts of others.
