Mahama says Big Push will bridge Ghana’s rural-urban infrastructure gap

President John Dramani Mahama stated that Ghana's infrastructure program aims to not only expand physical infrastructure but also to reduce disparities in access to vital services between rural and urban areas. Speaking at the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Mahama highlighted the government's Big Push Programme, which is focused on enhancing roads, digital connectivity, schools, and health facilities throughout the nation.

He emphasized that this investment is meant to open up communities, improve access to services, and unlock economic opportunities, especially in regions that have traditionally experienced infrastructure deficiencies. The President explained that the aggressive national infrastructure agenda under the Big Push Programme aims to construct roads, enhance digital connectivity, and build schools and healthcare facilities.

He emphasized that this strategic investment is opening up the entirety of the country, bridging the rural-urban divide, unlocking agricultural potential, and ensuring equitable access to essential services for every Ghanaian, regardless of their location. Mahama connected the infrastructure drive to the government's broader economic strategy, including the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, which he said would promote industrialization, value addition, and job creation.

According to Mahama, the ultimate measure of Ghana's development should be the tangible improvements in citizens' daily lives through better infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities.
