Madani govt to address MSME concerns over foreign e-commerce competition - PM

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim disclosed that the Malaysian government is devising follow-up measures to tackle the grievances of local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) facing competition from foreign e-commerce platforms. This issue was brought up during bilateral talks with China's leadership and business interactions during Anwar's working visit to China.

The Madani administration is in the process of finalising comprehensive measures to address this matter, which will be a priority at the upcoming cabinet meeting, Anwar stated in a social media post after his return from China. He expressed appreciation for Premier Li Qiang's pledge to find the most suitable method to protect local MSMEs and mitigate further consequences. This stance was bolstered by assurances from prominent corporations like Alibaba.

Moreover, Anwar reported that the Madani Diplomacy Mission in Shanghai and Hangzhou secured potential investments valued at RM28.6 billion, primarily in crucial industries such as semiconductors, AI integration, robotics, electric vehicles, battery materials, advanced optics, biotechnology, and advanced manufacturing. Concurrently, the country is anticipated to export RM8.2 billion to China within a period ranging from one to three years.

He emphasised that the visit reinforced the Malaysia-China friendship and diversified cooperation, promising enhanced benefits and prosperity for both nations.

Upon concluding his trip, Anwar departed for Kuala Lumpur following a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, further solidifying the robust relationship between Malaysia and China.
