Le Pen welcomes Trump’s G20 invite for Putin

French far-right politician Marine Le Pen has expressed her support for U.S. President Donald Trump's invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami later this year. At a POLITICO event in Paris, Le Pen stated that any measures aimed at ending the violence in Ukraine are welcome, while criticizing President Emmanuel Macron for not doing enough to bring Russia back to the negotiating table.

If Le Pen were to win the 2027 presidential election, France would cease all financial aid to Ukraine, although she hinted at maintaining some level of support, such as military training. Le Pen specifically mentioned Russia's recent attack on Ukraine's transportation infrastructure, warning that this increases the risk of escalation and makes ending the conflict more urgent.

The White House's decision to invite Putin to the G20, aimed at re-engaging Russia in the international diplomatic community, may result in Putin's first in-person G20 appearance since 2019. However, the move has sparked controversy, as Ukrainian forces continue to suffer heavy losses from Russian drone and missile assaults. EU Foreign Affairs Chief Kaja Kallas described the situation as "very hard to hear."
