La Shikitele Nii Adjei Koofeh IV denies responsibility for Laboma Beach Resort demolition

La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, has rejected any responsibility for the demolition of structures at the Laboma Beach Resort, insisting the government carried out the work. He revealed management had been warned several times about building within the Kpeshie Lagoon buffer zone but ignored the orders. Speaking at a town hall meeting in La on September 22, the kingmaker said he should not be blamed for the demolition.

"I have nothing to do with the demolition. It was done by the government," he insisted. Several buildings at Laboma Beach, including the popular Pink Flamingo Lounge, were destroyed on Sunday, September 13. The removal was performed by the Post-Flood Mitigation Task Force to restore the protected buffer zone of the Kpeshie Lagoon and tackle flooding issues.

It followed an August 7 directive to remove structures encroaching on waterways and their surrounding areas as part of efforts to restore natural drainage channels across the Greater Accra Region. Claimed links to the demolition were dismissed by the kingmaker, who also heads the Nmati Abonasi Quarter. He stated vendors and others affected by the exercise should direct their issues to Laboma Beach Resort management and maintain he is not responsible for the demolition or its outcomes.

The action was part of broader flood prevention efforts targeting structures within waterways and their designated buffer zones. The kingmaker emphasized the repeated warnings given to the resort management should have led to compliance with the Kpeshie Lagoon buffer zone directives.
