Kano seeks stronger ties with Saudi Arabia

The Kano State Government is advocating for enhanced economic and development cooperation with Saudi Arabia. This initiative, specifically targeting sectors such as agriculture, trade, investment, education, healthcare, industrialisation and renewable energy, was proposed by Deputy Governor Aminu Sule Garo during a ceremony celebrating Saudi Arabia's 96th National Day.

Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Garo emphasized the need to convert the centuries-old bond of religion, trade and Islamic scholarship between Kano and Saudi Arabia into practical partnerships that would yield tangible benefits for the people. He highlighted the vast potential for deeper collaboration beyond their shared religious and cultural heritage.

Garo also recognized the Saudi government's humanitarian efforts in Nigeria, notably through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, citing a recent surgical operation to separate conjoined twins in Kano as a testament to Saudi Arabia's ongoing support for the state's populace. Yusuf, in turn, congratulated the Saudi government and its people on the National Day, describing it as a celebration of unity, cohesion and development.

Earlier, Khalil Ahmed Al-Adamawi, the Consul General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, reaffirmed the enduring ties between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, highlighting the deepening of relations through shared religious, cultural and historical connections. The event was attended by representatives from the governments of Jigawa, Katsina and Sokoto states, various diplomatic corps members, academics, senior officers from the Nigerian Army, police and security agencies, Islamic scholars and business community members.
