Judge orders White House to restore access to news outlets Trump banned

This ruling comes as the administration and the media outlets engaged in a heated dispute over the allegations of "fake news" and viewpoint discrimination.

The ban, announced on September 18, was criticized by the outlets as a blatant violation of the First Amendment. U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, who was nominated by Trump in 2017 and who previously ordered a CNN journalist's access restored in a similar case in 2018, will review the case for 14 days. During the hearing, Kelly questioned whether the administration had followed proper legal procedures and given the outlets adequate due process before taking action against them.
