Jackson Koivun is golf's next star, but he still needs mom's help

Meghan Koivun, the mother of 21-year-old Jackson Koivun, wasn't aware of the custom Footjoy golf shoes her son was wearing during his practice round at Medinah Country Club until the end. The shoes were adorned with miniature American flags. After pondering the implications of her son's potential success in the 2026 Presidents Cup, she expressed concern about the future of his merchandise.

Koivun is the second-youngest player selected for the Presidents Cup, following Jordan Spieth in 2013. U.S. team captain Brandt Snedeker bypassed several experienced players in favor of the young Koivun. Koivun, who has an impressive amateur career, has become the first college golfer in history to win all three national player of the year awards twice while at Auburn University.

He has secured three top-15 finishes in PGA Tour events while playing as an amateur, qualified for the last two U.S. Opens, and won the 3M Open in his third PGA Tour start. Koivun is regarded as a potential star for the U.S. team, providing a model for developing young players for international competitions. However, despite the recognition, Koivun still requires support from his family, as his mother and father continue to help him navigate the challenges of a professional golf career.
