IUMI elects Sean M. Dalton as President and says farewell to Frédéric Denèfle

The International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) has elected Sean M. Dalton as its new President, marking the end of Frédéric Denèfle's four-year tenure. The election occurred during the association's annual conference in Rotterdam. Dalton, who was the sole nominee, will serve a four-year term beginning at the conclusion of the conference. He expressed his gratitude for being elected, stating his honor and humility in taking on the role of President for the 152-year-old association.

Dalton highlighted several priorities for his presidency, including raising awareness of the marine insurance industry and promoting it as a rewarding career choice. Additionally, he emphasized his focus on diversity and inclusion, education, artificial intelligence, and sustainability. Dalton, who has served as IUMI Vice-President, will be succeeded by Tom Shinya, Senior Expert from Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance Co., Ltd. Shinya will fill the Vice-President position.

Frédéric Denèfle, who has been IUMI President since 2022, reflected on his time in office, acknowledging the challenges and opportunities faced during his tenure. He expressed gratitude for the support of the IUMI community, particularly the dedication and professionalism of the Secretariat. Denèfle wished Dalton success in his new role, acknowledging the prestigious nature of the position.

IUMI Secretary General Lars Lange reflected on Denèfle's legacy, praising his dedication and commitment to the association. He welcomed Dalton as the 27th President, noting his experience and comprehensive knowledge of IUMI and the broader insurance industry. Lange expressed his enthusiasm for working with Dalton and continuing to grow the association as the world's leading marine insurance organization.
