Infrastructure software company Clastix, based in Naples, has secured €2.9 million in seed funding to develop sovereign Kubernetes infrastructure for Europe. This marks the first external round of investment for the company. Led by CDP Venture Capital Sgr, the round also included participation from Mistral and Vertis SGR through its Vertis Venture 6 Digital Sud fund, which is partially funded by the European Union’s Next-Generation EU programme.
CDP Venture Capital's Chief Investment Officer, Alessandro Scortecci, emphasized the company's commitment to backing strategic technologies developed in Italy that can strengthen Europe's technological sovereignty and long-term competitiveness. Clastix, founded in 2020 by Adriano Pezzuto and Dario Tranchitella, has developed infrastructure software to reduce the operational overhead of running Kubernetes at scale.
The company's journey began with Capsule, an open-source project that introduced native multi-tenancy to Kubernetes. Clastix then developed Kamaji, which allows tenant control planes to run as pods on shared infrastructure rather than on dedicated machines, eliminating the "control plane tax." These technologies are now combined into a single enterprise offering called kMetal, Clastix's commercial platform for fleet-scale Kubernetes operations.
Clastix's clients include AI labs, telecommunications, cloud services, and the public sector, such as Fastweb, NVIDIA, and Mistral. The company aims to expand its R&D capabilities to support AI-scale workloads and grow its team to enter new markets as enterprises build their AI infrastructure.
With the additional capital, Clastix plans to focus on product development, customer success, solutions engineering, and go-to-market expansion as it scales its kMetal platform. Over the next three years, the company intends to double its workforce to meet rising customer demand and enhance capabilities for serving larger enterprise teams. The funds will also be used to continue investing in Kamaji, Clastix's open-source Hosted Control Plane engine, which remains free and unchanged under the Apache 2.0 licence.
