Ismail calls for review of directive barring state exco from offices

Negri Sembilan's Chief Minister, Datuk Ismail Lasim, has urged authorities to reconsider the restriction prohibiting state executive councillors (exco) from accessing their offices at Wisma Negeri. Ismail did not specify which agency issued the directive, but noted that it was communicated verbally without a written order. He informed that not only were exco members barred from entering their individual offices, but they were also prevented from performing their duties as exco members.

At a press conference, Ismail emphasized the need for a review of the directive, taking into account the ongoing dispute and the necessity of preventing disruptions to public affairs and state administration. He requested the authorities to examine the directive's foundation and extent, asserting that this proposal was made through proper channels without impeding security responsibilities.

Ismail called upon all parties to grant the state government and the legal process the opportunity to resolve the dispute, asserting that the government would proceed with decorum and respect the institutions of the Negri Sembilan Royal Household, prioritizing the interests of the people. He reiterated that as Chief Minister, he had never been consulted on terminating any exco member under Article 38(5) of the state constitution, thereby asserting that the existing exco members remain legitimate and will continue their duties as usual.

This stance was based on legal interpretations and the bounds of executive powers under the Constitution, particularly regarding the status and tenure of exco members. The remark followed the immediate dismissal of state executive councillors after they allegedly breached the oath of office they swore before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan on August 7.
