Iranian president appreciates Pakistan’s ‘principled diplomacy’ in meeting with PM Shehbaz

During a meeting at the 81st Session of UN General Assembly in New York, Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between their two nations. Speaking to the press, the Prime Minister’s Office reported that both leaders emphasized the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the region and the necessity for restraint, de-escalation, and persistent diplomatic efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability. He also stressed the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting regional peace and stability.

Iranian President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s principled diplomacy and its contributions to regional peace and security. He highlighted the longstanding strength of the Pakistan-Iran relations, which are rooted in shared history, culture, and faith. The two sides agreed to continue working closely to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities, with the aim of fostering regional peace, security, and prosperity.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Special Advisor to PM Tariq Fatemi, and senior officials from both countries were present at the meeting alongside the two leaders.
