Indonesian court cuts Gojek founder’s sentence to nine years

Indonesian authorities have reduced the prison term of Gojek founder and former education minister Nadiem Makarim from 10 years to 9 years on appeal. Makarim was convicted of abusing his authority during a laptop procurement that resulted in $125 million in financial losses for the state. The court upheld the original decision but cut the restitution amount from 809 billion rupiah to 548 billion rupiah.

Nadiem expressed disappointment with the ruling and announced plans to appeal to the Supreme Court. The court also maintained a previous ruling that Makarim had altered tender requirements to favor Chrome, which provided an unfair advantage to Google and limited competition.
