‘I’m not sure I’ll be alive by 2027 election’ – Peter Obi

Presidential contender Peter Obi, representing the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced apprehension regarding his safety in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections, stating he is uncertain if he will survive until the election's conclusion. During an interview on Arise TV, the ex-governor of Anambra revealed that he has been petitioned and investigated in various jurisdictions, and expressed uncertainty about potential outcomes.

"At the moment, I am unsure whether I will be alive by the time of the election," he stated. Obi attributed his situation to divine intervention and appealed to fellow politicians for a peaceful and democratic atmosphere ahead of the elections. "I am praying for God's protection as I am not certain of what is taking place," he added.

Additionally, the NDC candidate urged governors to permit presidential candidates and other political aspirants to campaign without hindrance. Governors, he noted, had the prerogative to endorse their preferred candidates, but they should also permit others to vie for various offices. "Some of them will be campaigning for the presidency tomorrow.

They will be campaigning for other offices tomorrow. Let's have peace," Obi asserted, reflecting on his tenure as Anambra's governor, where he enabled political rivalries to campaign in the state despite their support for his opponents.
